The Department of Health currently set us a target of ensuring patients can see a health professional within 24 hours and a GP (not necessarily a GP of the patients choice) within 48 hours. In order to help us achieve this we run an appointment only system at all our surgeries. Our team of receptionists are here to assist you, and will give you any help they can.

We aim to offer multiple access points with patients being able to choose how to access the practice, for example, we offfer:

• Bookable face to face/telephone consultations 
• Choice of seeing doctor or nurse (patients suffering from a minor illness may be offered an appointment with a nurse in the first instance)
• Range of  treatment options and dedicated clinics for specific conditions
• Access via website, folllow this link to book an appointment online
• Use of 'on call' doctor to assess requests for acute medical problems that may require same day attention. 

Morning surgeries tend to run from 8.30 - 11.00 am with evening surgeries usually running from 4.00 - 6.00 pm. In addition, there are also a number a early afternoon surgeries that run on a number of days during the week. Despite our best efforts it is not possible to run surgeries to exact schedules, our receptionists will always try to let you know if there is any undue delay.

From 1 May 2010 two doctors working from our main site in Selby will operate surgeries outside our normal opening hours. These surgeries are for pre booked appointments ONLY, and are designed to help those patients who work full time. Our normal services CANNOT be accessed during these hours. These surgeries operate on the following days/times:

• Monday: 7.00 - 8.00 am and 6.30 - 8.00 pm
• Tuesday: 7.00 - 8.00 am

When making your appointment the receptionist will ask you the nature of the problem, this is intended to ensure that an appointment can be made for you with the most appropriate clinician. In asking this question the receptionist is in no way 'being nosey' but is trying to determine the most suitable person for you to see at the earliest possible opportunity. This could be a doctor, a health visitor or a practice nurse.

If you cannot keep your appointment for any reason, please let us know, it can then be offered to someone else.

Home Visits

If you need a home visit because you are too ill to come to the surgery, please telephone the appropriate surgery before 10.30 am if possible.

Home visits take up a lot more of a GP's time than an appointment in surgery, so we would ask you to bear this in mind when requesting one. Generally it is not detrimental to bring a child to surgery with a temperature or a rash, and you may be asked to do this.

Please help us by coming in to surgery whenever possible.

Telephone Advice

The GP or Nurse will be able to answer questions you may have relating to medication, minor illness etc, this may save you a visit to the surgery. If the clinician feels you need to be seen then they will arrange an appointment for you with the most appropriate clinician.

If you need advice from a GP or Nurse you should telephone the surgery you usually attend before 10.00 each weekday. A receptionist will then take your details and a clinician will call you back. Your call will be returned as soon as possible, this may be after 10.30 am
